ABSTRACT

Neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability (250.7 million disability-adjusted life years) and the second leading cause of death (9.4 million) worldwide. Furthermore, in the last three decades, the absolute number of deaths increased by almost 40% and the disability-adjusted life years increased more than 15%, despite declines in communicable neurological disorders such as tetanus, meningitis, and encephalitis.
