ABSTRACT
Congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is a common musculoskeletal defect mainly affecting newborns and children. It is caused by the shortening and fibrosis of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM). CMT is characterized by ipsilateral lateral head flexion and contralateral chin lift with constrained cervical motion. The most common etiologies for the development of CMT are in-utero malposition, trauma at birth (excessive stretching of SCM), compartment syndrome, infections, and vascular injury.
